Welcome to The Sunflower School

The Sunflower School is a developing Wildflower Montessori charter school, offering tuition-free education for Kindergarten and above within the Aurora School District. Rooted in authentic Montessori principles, our mission is to nurture curiosity, creativity, and global citizenship through hands-on learning, cultural celebration, and an inclusive, child-led approach. We are committed to reducing barriers to access, ensuring that high-quality Montessori education is available to all families. For our early childhood programs, we provide flexible tuition options, including a tiered system and Universal Preschool funding.

At The Sunflower School, we cultivate a community of independence, mutual respect, and self-expression, where children are empowered to explore their emotions, engage with the world around them, and develop a lifelong love of learning. In our mixed-age classrooms, we will serve 55 students, from 3-6 years old and 6-9 years old, creating a warm and dynamic environment where every child’s voice is valued. As we grow, we are excited to expand into Upper Elementary next year, providing even more children with the opportunity to experience an enriching Montessori education.

We are located at the Aurora Tech Center, next to Lava Island, offering a convenient and accessible location for families in the community. As we build our school, we welcome dedicated parents and community partners to join us in shaping a thriving, sustainable school community. Your support and collaboration will help us create a place where children flourish and families feel truly connected. Together, we can make The Sunflower School a joyful, enriching space for all.

Our Story

The Sunflower School was founded by experienced Montessori educators Zoey He and Emely De Jesus-Murillo, driven by their passion for creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. As co-directors, they bring a wealth of experience in Montessori education and a deep commitment to student-driven learning.

With a micro-school model, Emely and Zoey take an active role in both the classroom and the school's operations, managing essential aspects such as finance, marketing, and enrollment. This hands-on approach ensures that student and family voices are at the heart of every decision.

Supporting their vision is a dedicated board of directors, whose expertise in nonprofit finance, school marketing, and community engagement helps sustain and grow The Sunflower School. Together, they are shaping a school where children thrive, curiosity leads the way, and every voice matters.
